What is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international organization of laymen and women inspired by the Gospel to provide direct service to the poor. It serves in 5 continents and 152 locations with over 800,000 volunteers creating a vast network of charity throughout the world.


Who are Vincentians?

Vincentians are the volunteers who work for SVdP from all walks of life, every age group and ethnic background, who are committed to the Society’s mission – growing spiritually through person to person help of those in need.


Do you have to be Catholic to be helped by the Society or its members?

No, the Society offers material aid, emotional support and spiritual comfort to anyone who demonstrates a genuine need.


What is a conference?

SVdP has 72 local groups of volunteers called conferences. Each conference is organized locally to serve the needs of its particular community. It is the primary means by which volunteers serve those in need through home visits, food pantries, and thrift stores.

What is the Conference Support Center?

The Conference Support Center is operated by a dedicated group of paid staff that provide administrative, technical, educational, and other services to support the work of the conferences as well as managing the the thrift stores, food reclamation and distribution, and other programs. The Conference Support Center is the “home office” of SVdP Georgia and fosters spiritual unity and communication among conferences throughout the state.


Who funds St. Vincent de Paul Georgia?

SVdP Georgia is funded through thrift store sales, donations from individuals in the community, bequests, and grants.


What kind of donations does the Society accept?

Financial donations, new and gently used clothing, furniture, working appliances, household items, vehicles and boats. Vehicles and boats are sold at auction and the proceeds are donated to the Society.


How do I arrange for a deduction for financial donations, donated clothing and used property?

If you make a financial donation online or by mail, you will receive a tax donation letter shortly after it is processed.

If you donate items to our thrift stores or at the Conference Support Center, one of the volunteer salespeople in the store or warehouse will give you a receipt.


How do I make a clothing or furniture donation?

You may bring your clothing donations to any of SVdP Georgia’s 13 Thrift Stores or drop them off at the Conference Support Center.

Are contributions tax-deductible?

Yes. St. Vincent de Paul Georgia, including its Conferences and Thrift Stores are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions are deductible to the extent allowed under the Internal Revenue Service rules.

A St. Vincent de Paul volunteer will return your call, usually within 24-48 hours, and you can discuss your needs in detail. If you are unable to find a Conference in your area through this helpline, that means at this time there is no active St. Vincent de Paul in your area and we suggest contacting United Way or your local Catholic Church for assistance.


How do I get food for me and/or my children?

St. Vincent de Paul Conferences (a group of local volunteer caseworkers) will typically have a resource for food whether it be their own food pantry or a referral to another one in the community. A St. Vincent de Paul volunteer will return your call, usually within 24-48 hours, and you can discuss your needs in detail. Typically, we will visit with you at your home and bring food, but be sure to tell the intake specialist or your caseworker if you are in need of food. We provide food and grocery gift cards through our Conferences. Each one responds to needs within its neighborhood. Use this map to find the food pantry that serves your neighborhood. Since all of the pantries are run by volunteers, each location has unique operating hours and appointment scheduling. If there is no food pantry operating in your area, our volunteer caseworkers may be able to help you find another organization they can refer you to.


How do I get help with furniture for me and/or my children?

St. Vincent de Paul Conferences (a group of local volunteer caseworkers) have partnerships with our 12 thrift stores to provide furniture and household goods. Does St. Vincent de Paul give cars to clients?

St. Vincent de Paul Georgia does not have a car program that provides vehicles to individuals. Donated cars are sold and the proceeds are used to support our work. If you are in need of transportation, our Conferences may be able to help you with public transportation costs.
