St. Vincent de Paul Georgia is happy to announce our new Board President, Michael Mies. Mike has served as District 2 President since 2015 and Vice-Chair of the board since 2017.

Mike is a native of Michigan but spent 8 years living and working in Europe (Belgium and Switzerland) before moving to Atlanta in 1997. He is an avid tennis player and also a big fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!) Mike has been married for 36 years to his wife Jane and has two children who were both born in Switzerland.

During his time with St. Vincent de Paul, Mike has had many opportunities to work directly with clients in need. Mike has been a caseworker since 2001, and he still enjoys doing casework and getting to know clients, sharing their concerns, and learning how SVdP can help them. Mike also appreciates the spiritual aspect of SVdP and enjoys leading two conferences in spiritual reflection as the Spiritual Advisor.

Mike has worked with many wonderful clients over the last 20 years and brings that experience to his role as President. One story that has stuck with him is that of a family (mother and sons) from the Middle East who greatly needed financial assistance- “With the resources and support from Catholic Charities, we were able to support the family financially for several months until they could get on their feet.”

We are very excited about Mike’s term as Board President and grateful for his commitment to our programs and services. In addition to being a smart and thoughtful leader, Mike is a great reminder of the importance of service and generosity. We know that he will continue to inspire people to support SVdP, as we work to bring help and hope to those in need.
